Galvalume will reject paint unless it is properly treated. The secret to painting galvanized steel is white vinegar. Use a long handled paint roller and apply primer until no portion of the metal is visible. Go over the metal with a wire brush to remove any oxidation.

Galvalume is a type of sheet steel used in a variety of applications including roofing siding furniture gutters and pipe. Galvalume metal roof and siding panels are coated with a mixture of zinc and aluminum and siliconized coating to help resist scuffs and fingerprints better than a bare metal product. The mixture of zinc and aluminum protects the galvalume metal against corrosion and rust helping galvalume typically last much longer than galvanized steel. All you have to do is simply apply the vinegar to a clean rag and then wipe down the galvanized surface.

All of the listed coatings will give good results. The vinegar is a mild acid which acts to etch the galvanized coating so the paint will stick. White vinegar is both effective and non toxic so it is much safer to use than your average industrial solvent. The areas to be painted should be dry and clean of visible soil grease oil or other contaminants.

Wipe the galvanized surface down with white vinegar. Prime the surface with a primer made for metal.
